This male Northern Cardinal was painted from a photographer’s high resolution photo. John Jelly from Instagram lives in Georgia and graciously granted permission to paint the Cardinal of which I am very thankful. Redbirds tend to be very popular with art collectors.
I was drawn to this redbird because of the colors compliment of the bird and background. I used a number of artistic techniques to intensify the bird’s presence. I am painting a lot of birds these days and enjoying everyone. I have learned so much about birds, their coloring and habitats, as well as, behaviors and breeding. It’s not just about painting a bird. As an artist, I try to learn as much as I can about the different birds I paint.
The ground for this painting is oil as well as the painting itself and is painted on cotton canvas.
Thanks Dr. D for being a collector.
I will be painting more Cardinals, Eastern Bluebirds and many others in the future so enjoy and check back often.
